How to not Gain Weight During Isolation! In 4 Simple Ways

Updated: Jul 28, 2020

Here are my 4 tips on how not to gain weight while at home with a kitchen full of food!

1. When you wander aimlessly to the kitchen, because you are no doubt bored, grab a glass of water and wander back out. Drink the water and if you still want to have a snack then grab something healthy like an apple or banana with almond butter, maybe some guacamole and baked chips, or raisins with a few pieces of dark chocolate (instant raisinets). It is ok to snack in between meals, but why are you snacking, are you indeed hungry, or bored?

2. Since we now have an abundance of time at home, take up cooking, get the children involved (if you have kids), start with roasting veggies, there is a simple recipe in my April newsletter, you don't have to use the vegetables I used, use what you have like: red peppers, onions, sweet potato, avocado (this are delicious roasted), carrots, asparagus, zucchini. Now you have a healthy lunch, add the veggies to rice, quinoa or farro and top with hummus, a fresh squeeze of lemon or splash of apple cider vinegar. Keep it simple but tasty!

3. When you need to, and when necessary, shop at the grocery stores for food that will lift your vibrations not dull them down. In other words, fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably ones that don't sour quickly, or find frozen veggies. In my area it seems people aren't into kale, the grocer had frozen kale galore, and I stocked up. Some fresh vegetables that will last might include: sweet potatoes, red potatoes, celery, onions, avocado (refrigerate once at perfect ripeness), butternut squash, acorn squash, apples, kiwi (refrigerate once ripened), parsnips, and carrots among others. Try to stop yourself from buying boxed cookies, donuts, chips and cheese puffs. If junk food is not in the house, you won't eat it.

4. Exercise! Instead of getting up and heading to the couch, start or end your day (or anywhere in between for that matter) with movement! The best way to maintain weight is through daily exercise. I feature 2 yoga classes during the week (more classes to come if there is a demand for it). Though the purpose of yoga is not solely exercise, the benefit of yoga undoubtedly works the body. The two classes I offer are a movement based class that offers some challenge to beginners and advanced yogis alike and a yin class to settle down into quietness to make space to release the things that are causing tension and disruption in the body, I think I can speak for everyone that we all need that now. Join me if you wish and tell your friends:

Wednesdays 2:00-3:00p All Levels Yoga Class

Fridays 7:00-8:00p Yin Yoga

Thank you. Gratitude to all of you always. Stay fit, healthy and keep the pounds off.
